If you could clone yourself, how would you split up your responsibilities?
Clone 1: Career Jamie
This clone would be responsible for taking care of my acting career. She could travel anywhere to work, live in any city, and never worry about leaving her responsibilities behind at home. She would have 24 glorious hours a day to do things like stretch, pole dance, practice Alexander technique, do yoga, learn how to sing, learn new monologues, read plays, research seasons, promote herself and her work. She could stay out late after a show to have a drink with the cast, and no one would care what time she crawled into bed. She could even follow her natural, night-owl rhythms, staying up til 3 a.m. and sleeping in to well past noon.
Clone 2: Housewife Jamie
This clone would be the housewife I’ve always dreamed of having. She already knows how to clean, sew, knit, crochet, and can and preserve food, but I’d have to send her to cooking school to learn how to cook meals for herself and her family. No more toast for supper! (Seriously, that’s what we had for supper last night – peanut and jelly toast). She would tend the garden in the summer and make comforting soups and stews in the winter. She would never forget someone’s birthday. She would celebrate all seasonal holidays by baking appropriately shaped cookies, and decorating the house with appropriately coloured paper streamers and balloons. She would shovel the sidewalk and rake the leaves, take care of the chickens and the bees. She would listen to her husband, like really listen to him, so that he doesn’t have to repeat himself three or four times. The house would be her kingdom, and everything would happen according to schedule and be done on time.
Clone 3: Foster Mama Jamie
This clone would take really good care of her foster baby. She would never be too tired to play with her or read to her. She would never be cranky when getting her dressed in the morning or impatient with her when she wants to sit on the potty for half an hour and play with the toilet paper. Foster baby would have her undivided attention.
Clone 4: Book Worm/Coffee Drinker/Animal Lover Jamie*
All this clone would do is sit on the couch with a cup of really good coffee, a really good book, and two awesome dogs curled up near her feet. Every once in awhile, she could take the dogs for a walk, or refill her cup of coffee, but her main responsibility is just to sit and read good books.
*Most days, I just want to be this clone. Screw all the rest.
