We got tired of waiting.  The first official day of Spring came and went, and we still had snow and ice.

We lugged the BBQ into the garage, and like a true prairie man, Will grilled our first steak of Spring during a mini-blizzard.

We had to celebrate.  The green stuff has returned to the Farmers’ Market.

Our entire supper – seriously, everything on that plate – was grown/raised/butchered right here in Saskatchewan.  Right down to the delicious bacon fat that we rubbed into the grass-fed beef rib eye steaks.

Friday night, I signed up for Apartment Therapy’s January Cure. It’s a month-long program to “cure” your home (i.e. get rid of clutter, get organized, get clean). One of the first assignments is to buy flowers for your home. You cannot skip this step. They say it’s very important. I don’t disagree. Apparently, a lot of people already do this because it was nearly impossible to find flowers Friday evening at five o’clock. I went to three different flower shops, and they were all cleaned out. Finally found some at a grocery store.

Flowers for January CureSaturday morning, I went to the Farmers’ Market. Got some whole grain organic flour, five pounds of carrots, a jar of honey, and some fish for supper. Eating locally has never looked so good.

Sunday evening, I completed the weekend’s assignment for the January Cure (sweep/mop/vacuum all your floors), and used that super awesome, healthy whole wheat organic flour I bought at the market to make chocolate chip cookies. A delicious end to the weekend.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip CookiesHow was the weekend on your little homestead?  Did you get to the Farmers’ Market, too?  Hope it was lovely.
