Hello Gwendolen Fairfax!  Goodbye Ophelia!

We started rehearsals for The Importance of Being Earnest last Friday.  Instead of the usual first day fare of coffee and doughnuts for the “meet and greet,”  we had tea cups, Earl Grey tea, cucumber sandwiches, and short bread.  We dressed up in Garden Party attire.  Oscar Wilde would’ve approved.

Hello Oscar WildeAlso, we closed Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan this past weekend, too.  The closing crossed over the beginning of Earnest, so my weekend was a bit busy (three 13-hour days, with no lunch or dinner break, in a row!  Gah.)  My brain has been split between Wilde and Shakespeare.  I’m sad to say goodbye to Shakespeare, but I’m glad to focus completely on Wilde now.

Goodbye Shakespeare

We open As You Like it Tonight.  Here’s to a good show, a great party, and a lovely bike ride home in a dress and high heels. Have a great weekend, everyone!

This is what I see every night as I bike home from the site.  So pretty.  The Paris of the Prairies. (I got five mosquito bites when I stopped to take this picture)

We moved to the site last Tuesday.  This is Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan’s home now, ’til the end of August.  Spending the summer on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River is bliss – even in the extreme weather.  We spend so much of the year cooped up in our houses, running to our warm cars, then dashing back inside a warm building, that it’s refreshing to spend eight weeks of the summer with only a tent and trailer for protection from the elements.

The first day was rainy.  The second day was windy.  On the third day, there was sunshine.  Hurrah!
